Update 29/05/25

An update has been issued by the LAA explaining the contingency plans - Legal Aid Agency cyber-security incident - GOV.UK

In light of the contingency plans outlined by the LAA to pay weekly 'Average Payments' whilst they recover their systems following the recent cyber incident, we suggest the following steps.

  • Continue to update LEX with work done regardless of whether you can submit a claim.  This will enable you to comply with the opt in requirement to furnish the LAA with a list of pending claims on demand and also mitigate the extent of backlog once the systems are restored.
  • Create a single case record per barrister (E.g. LAA Cyber Case BAR1) to process payments received under the average payments scheme.  Please note that you should not post fees to these case records or attempt to match payments.  The case should remain overpaid until the recoupment process begins.
